Nellie Frances Bacon, 87, Edgerton, Kan., passed away July 11, 2013, at her home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, Kan., with burial at Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, Kan. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, before the service at the funeral home.

Nellie was born March 31, 1926, in rural Olathe Township to Frank and Hattie May (Branaum) Bacon. She was a lifelong area resident, graduating as valedictorian from Wellsville High School in 1944. Nellie received her teaching certificate from Emporia State Teachers College and taught one year in rural Johnson County.

She worked in the bookkeeping department for Bennett Creamery in Ottawa, Kan. Nellie moved to California and worked in the press room at Buzza-Cardozo greeting cards in VanNuys. She moved back to Wellsville in 1955, and to Gardner in the 1970s. Nellie retired in 1999 from Inter-collegiate Press Printing Co. after 22 years as a camera operator. She then moved to Edgerton in 2000.

Nellie was a caregiver for her parents for many years. She enjoyed the treat of eating at McDonald’s. Nellie loved spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Marion, Clarance, Ray and Roy; and three sisters, Mildred, Bessie and Florence.

Nellie is survived by her sister, Bernice Holden, Edgerton, Kan.; nephews, Roger Holden, Lawrence, Jerry Bacon, Olathe, and Gary Bacon, Overland Park; and nieces, Vicky Dowdy, Ottawa, Judy Koonce, Spring Hill, Carolyn Holliday, Round Hill, Va., Diana Roberts, Farmington, Minn., and Sandra Clifton, Burbank, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Sandra Clifton Ministries, Burbank, Calif. Condolences may be left at
