William “Bill” Allen Lytle (Grandpa), 93, Wellsville, passed away Feb. 26, 2013.
Visitation is planned for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Wilson’s Funeral Home in Wellsville. The funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Wellsville Cemetery.
William was born Aug. 8, 1919, on a farm just south of Wellsville, to Charles Louis and Eula Mae (Jenkins) Lytle. He grew up on a farm just outside Wellsville and attended the Wellsville School District.
Upon graduation from high school, he attended Kansas State Agricultural College, where he was a member of the livestock judging team.
On Aug. 28, 1943, he married Margaret Jean Fisher. She preceded him in death.
On Jan. 18, 1980, he married Letha L. Elliott Wood, who survives of the home.
He was a farmer and respected stockman, raising registered Angus cattle and Shropshire sheep.
Some of his other accomplishments included exhibiting sheep at the International Livestock Exhibition in Indianapolis and the National Western Livestock show in Denver; judging wool fleeces at the American Royal; was a co-founder of the SHAFF 4-H club in Wellsville; a member of the Wellsville Methodist Church; a charter member of the Wellsville Kiwanis Club; a member of the building committee for the Wellsville Community Center; and served on various county and community boards.
He was an avid Kansas State University fan, boasting that he had watched basketball in all three auditoriums on campus, Nichols Hall, Ahearn Arena and Bramlage Coliseum.
William also enjoyed Baker University Basketball, as well as Wellsville High School sporting activities.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith Margaret; an infant brother, Joseph; and three sisters, Margaret Lytle Hoffman, Betty Lytle DeGarmo and Charlotte Lytle Todd.
Survivors include a son, William L. “Bill” Lytle and his wife, Nancy, Wellsville; a daughter, Jane Ann Lytle Silveira and her husband, Brian, Selma, Calif.; stepdaughter, Sue Smart and her husband, Leon, Ottawa; stepson, Rick Wood and his wife, Karen, Chillicothe, Mo.; stepdaughter, Sara Mullen, Wichita; grandson, Casey William Lytle and his wife, Angie, Olathe; granddaughter Amanda Jane Lytle, Wellsville; step-granddaughters, Debbie Bisch and her husband, Jeff, Callao, Mo., and Jody Popple and her husband, Dave, Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; step-grandsons, Danny Wood and his wife, Pam, Omaha, Mo., Darren Mullen, Wichita, and Matt Mullen and his wife, Angie, Goddard; two great-grandsons, Jackson William and Mason Russell Lytle, Olathe; great-granddaughter, Emerson Joy Lytle, Olathe; niece, Linda DeGarmo Hendrix and her husband, Dick, Kearney, Mo.; nephew, Ronnie Todd and his wife, Kathy, Paola; nephew, Doug DeGarmo and his wife, Carole, Kearney, Mo.; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and many other nieces and nephews.
