Five local students were awarded degrees at Rockhurst University’s 93rd annual commencement ceremony May 11 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

In keeping with the student-centered focus at Rockhurst, the program featured two student speakers: Katie Marie Birkenfeld, Kearney, Neb., who received a Bachelor of Arts in English and philosophy; and Andrew Christopher Kurz, Sedalia, Mo., who received a Master of Occupational Therapy.

Rockhurst University is one of 28 Catholic, Jesuit universities in the United States.

Students who earned awards included Jared Steinshouer, Baldwin City, Master of Business Administration, Executive Fellows MBA; Casey Wright, Baldwin City, Master of Education, Master of Education; Melissa Porter, McLouth, Master of Science, Communication Sci & Disorders; Kara McFarland, Princeton, Bachelor of Science, Exercise and Sport Science; Rachel Sedlacek, Tecumseh, Master of Occupational Therapy, Occupational Therapy; Jeffrey Jones, Wellsville, Master of Education.
