John “Junior” and Opal Fritts will celebrate their 60th anniversary with a potluck reception from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2 at Celebration Hall, 1737 S. Elm St., Ottawa. All friends and family are welcome to attend the dinner and reception.The hosts of the event will be the couple’s children, Jerry and Debbie Fritts, Ottawa; Shirley and David Rose, Baldwin City; and Joyce and Randy Smith, Ottawa.They have 10 grandchildren, Julie Hendricks, Travis Fritts, Tracy Fritts, Chris Rose, Jason Rose, Heather Leabo, Shandon Smith, Brandi Smith, Joel Blitch and Jay Blitch; and 17 great-grandchildren.The couple met at an Appanoose High School basketball game.They lived briefly in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, in the early ‘60s. Upon returning to Kansas, they lived on the farm for 46 years.They enjoy wintering in Texas, and are members of the Power of the Past and the Night Crawlers Camping Club.John “Junior” Fritts and the former Opal Shibe were married Nov. 3, 1948, at Topeka.They live at 2291 Reno Terrace, Ottawa KS 66067.
