Franklin Countians could see a 1 percent increase in the county mill levy for 2014.

According to the Franklin County budget summary, the estimated mill levy for 2014 will be 59.991, up from 59.473 in 2013.

County commissioners voted Wednesday to publish the notice of budget hearing, set for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 5 at the County Board of Commissioners Chambers, 1418 South Main St., Ottawa. Taxpayers can come to the hearing with any objections or questions related to the proposed 2014 budget. The 2014 estimated tax rate is subject to change depending on the final assessed valuation, according to the notice.

“[The 2014 budget] has to be voted on and certified to the county clerk by Aug. 25,” Lisa Johnson, Franklin County administrator and counselor, said.

At the budget hearing, commissioners will listen to and answer any questions about the budget, then make a decision, Johnson said.

“At the hearing, members of the public have the right to ask questions and comment on the budget,” she said.

Detailed budget information is available at the county administration offices, 1428 S. Main St., Ottawa, and also will be available at the budget hearing, according to the notice.
