Golda Ferne Hendrickson, 94, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013, at the North Point Care Center in Paola, Kan., surrounded by her family.

Visitation was Monday, April 15, at Penwell-Gable Funeral Home. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at the First Baptist Church, Paola. Burial followed in the Louisburg Cemetery, Louisburg.

Golda Ferne was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Louisburg, Kan., to Levi Andrew and Q. V. (Wolf) Butts.

She married James Oliver Hendrickson Oct. 24, 1936, in the Baptist Parsonage, Ottawa.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Paola.

Oliver and Golda Ferne moved numerous times in their nearly 60 years of marriage. They made their home in Cleveland, Mo., Paola, and Stover, Mo., before spending the final 31 years of their marriage in Paola.

Golda was first and foremost a loving homemaker and mother. Her children were her pride and joy. She was known for the wonderful meals prepared for anyone who was at her home.

Golda worked at several Paola businesses, including Cokers, Coast to Coast, Roberta’s Tea Room and Smith’s Garment Company. She retired from King Radio.

Golda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; granddaughter, Melody Dee Hendrickson; great-granddaughter, Ashley Samantha Emanuel; two brothers, Edward Levi Butts and wife, Dora, and Harold Vernon Butts and wife, Helen; one niece, Patty Jo Butts Gaither; and one nephew, Eddie Gene Butts.

Survivors include four sons, James Oliver Hendrickson Jr., and wife, Lucille, Hollister, Mo., Robert Lee Hendrickson and wife, Anna May, Ottawa, Kan., Darold Gene Hendrickson and wife, Karen, Fontana, Kan., and Harold Dean Hendrickson and wife, Dorothy, Paola, Kan.; two daughters, Carolyn Sue Jacobs and husband, Larry, Paola, Kan., and Connie Mae Derks and husband, Larry, Buffalo, Mo. She also leaves 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; as well as a host of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren; one step-brother, Fred Barnes and wife, Ethel, Louisburg, Kan.; three nieces, Amy Lee Roberts and husband, Fred, Olathe, Kan., Lou Etta Wilson and husband, Lee, Lenexa, Kan., and Vada Norene Tipton and husband, Don, St. Louis, Mo.
