I am more than a little concerned about the comment attributed to Commissioner Blake Jorgensen in Doug Carder’s Wednesday Herald article, “Appointed city positions coming open.”
Carder wrote, “Commissioner Blake Jorgensen said he wants to make sure candidates ... would be expected to seek city commission’s input before voting on any major decisions ... ”
I have been on several boards, and have never been asked to check with anybody before deciding a matter. That’s simply not the way a board functions. Board members are expected to vote their conscience, with consideration of those represented and full awareness of fiducial responsibility. If the board member cannot be trusted to do just that, they simply do not belong on the board.
Why would it be any different here?
