Another business plans to move into the remaining vacant portion of the former Crist Auto building near the intersection of K-68 and I-35 in Ottawa.

Midwest RV is expected to relocate to the building space in a few weeks, Larry Kaub, owner, said.

“We’ve been in the process for about a month, and we’re just finalizing everything,” Kaub said.

The renovations to the space will take a few months, Kaub said, but he expects the business to be running full steam by mid-March.

“They’re painting the whole building, putting down new gravel and new garage doors on the south side of the building,” he said. “Just doing a lot of maintenance to the building to get it how we want it.”

Midwest RV now is located at 315 Wilson St., Ottawa, Kaub said, which is a little too far from the main drag.

“Right now, we’re kind of off the beaten path and there are not a lot of people,” he said. “[At the new location] we’ll get more highway traffic, have more service area and a lot more foot traffic.”

Midwest RV does much of its sales online, Kaub said, but he’s hoping the new location will bring in more people.

“We’ll have a lot more business. We plan to double our sales, hire more guys — we’re just going to be a lot busier,” he said. “Right now we have four full-time guys, and I want to hire three more. I want to find somebody reliable and close to the business and kind of a people person who wants to try to help everybody out and do good, honest business. We’ve been in business a total of 10 years and our reputation means a lot out here, and we haven’t had any unhappy customers.”

The business offers more than just RV sales, Kaub said, it also offers service and repairs and even mobile response.

“We’re going to do a lot of advertising and word-of-mouth and seeing new business going in there and previous customers that already know us and our business,” he said.

Kaub has lived locally for about 10 years, he said, and couldn’t imagine moving his business out of Ottawa.

“All my family’s around here, and I couldn’t see going anywhere else,” he said. “We buy RVs from all over and ship them in and out, and we’re centered right where we want to be. We’re a square distance, from the East to West Coast, Canada, Texas — it’s a perfect location getting right off the highway.”
