BONNER SPRINGS — The Ottawa High School cross-country teams bested Bonner Springs in the season-opening dual Saturday between the two schools at Sunflower Hills.

The girls rolled to a 17-point win (19-36), while the boys had a 23-point cushion (20-43).

“Our runners gave a very strong performance at Bonner Springs on Saturday,” Ottawa coach Chris Kornhaus said. “One of the purposes of this first meet is to afford every runner the opportunity to be successful. The kids certainly achieved that goal. It also gives our rookies the chance to learn about racing.”

Sharissa Daw won the girls race for the second consecutive year.

“Our boys put eight runners between Bonner’s first and second runners,” Kornhaus said.

Gabe Skoog led Ottawa in second. Brandon Yates was third, 12 seconds behind Skoog.

Ottawa races 9 a.m. Saturday at Olathe North. The race is at Lone Elm Park at 167th and Lone Elm Road.
