President Obama is set to visit the University of Kansas’ campus this week, though state Democratic Party officials said Monday they knew few details of the commander-in-chief’s visit.

The White House confirmed Monday that Obama is planning an official event Friday at the university, but provided no other information, according to media reports.

Democratic party officials said the White House is looking for a site that could allow 3,000 to 6,000 people for the event, Joan Wagnon, Kansas Democratic chairwoman, said, according to media reports.

The nature of and reason for Obama’s visit also was unknown Monday. The president previously visited the region in December 2011, when Obama made an appearance in Osawatomie.
