A teacher and longtime library patron is the newest member of the Ottawa Library board of directors.

At its meeting Wednesday, Ottawa city commissioners appointed Patrice Peoples to serve the remaining term of former library board member Sharon Geiss, who has resigned.

Peoples is a third-grade teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic School, 426 S. Cedar St., Ottawa, where she has worked for 15 years.

In her application, Peoples said she is pursuing a master’s degree in educational technology, with an emphasis in library media science. She is a member of the Sacred Heart Parent Teacher Organization and Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kan., technology committee, as well as chair of several education-related committees.

“I have been a patron of the Ottawa Library since I was a child,” Peoples said in her application. “I would love to be part of a board that helps the library grow and serve its patrons’ ever changing need in this technology rich world.”

Peoples’ term on the library board runs through April 2016.
