MARION COUNTY — A 67-year-old Lyndon man who had been reported missing in mid-July was found dead Thursday afternoon in Marion County, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office reported Friday morning.
Raleigh Heskett’s body and the van he was last seen driving at a Lebo gas station in Coffey County have been recovered, Laurie Dunn, Linn County sheriff, said. Marion County is about a 90-minute drive southwest of Lyndon.
A Silver Alert was issued July 15 for Heskett. Witnesses who last saw Heskett said he appeared to have a severe laceration on his right forearm, authorities had previously reported.
“The cause of death is not known at this time, and an autopsy will be performed,” Dunn said Friday morning.
Heskett’s vehicle was discovered in a rural area south of U.S. 50 in Marion County, according to a Marion County Sheriff’s office report.
The investigation is ongoing between the sheriff’s offices in Marion and Linn counties, Dunn said.
“The Osage County Sheriff’s Office and the Heskett family appreciate the assistance of those who called in tips, passed out fliers and posted fliers in their business,” Dunn said.
Anyone with information about Heskett is asked to call the Osage County Sheriff’s office at (785) 828-3121 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-OS-CRIME.
