Jerry Warren Thompson, 74, rural Ottawa, Kan., passed away, Tuesday, July 23, 2013, surrounded by his family.

A celebration of life is planned 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at the Williamsburg Community Building. Those unable to attend may sign Jerry’s guestbook at

He was born Jan. 8, 1939, in Scranton, Kan., to Ralph Thompson and Ruby (Tindell).

He graduated from Appanoose High School and entered the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jerry and Ronalee Fretz were united in marriage March 12, 1959, in Costa Mesa, Calif.

He was employed as a carpenter in the Lawrence Local 2279.

Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, and raising a variety of livestock throughout his lifetime.

Survivors include his wife, Ronalee; three daughters, Terri Lynne Sutton (the late Leon Sutton), Waverly, Sandy Thompson (Paul Howell), Ottawa, Leslie Thompson, Lawrence; one son, Ty Thompson (Lori), Princeton; 10 grandchildren, Michele Sheets (Fred Dowd), Michael Sheets (Jessica Cozadd), Natasha Jenkins (Tyler), Cody Goracke, Brandy Schmidt, Trevor Smith, Dalton Thompson, Clay Thompson, Wyatt Thompson and Caitlyn Thompson; and five great-grandchildren, Zeek and Zoe Dowd, Morgan Jenkins, Tatten Underwood and Mikenna Sheets; siblings, William Thompson, Pomona, Dean Streebin, rural Ottawa, and Paula Huss, Princeton; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Thompson.
