POMONA — The West Franklin High School volleyball team is in the middle of a possible special season.

The Falcons are playing together and with confidence.

That is turning into a lethel combination for the Falcons.

West Franklin improved to 16-1 after going 5-0 Saturday to win the West Franklin Invitational in Pomona.

“The girls played very well together on Saturday,” West Franklin coach Angie Corwine said. “Everybody contributed and played their role perfectly.

“Micayla Campfield and Kati Aitchison stepped up their level of play.  It is the best I have seen both of them play this year.

“Sophomore middle hitter Macy Flory is playing really well too. She did very well for her first varsity tournament.

“Kati and Macy are giving us more offensive power with their front row play, and Micayla is running the team with great decision making at her setter spot.”

West Franklin defeated Osage City (25-8, 25-10), Central Heights (25-17, 25-19) and Anderson County (25-13, 21-25, 25-12) in pool play.

The Falcons bested Galena (25-14, 25-12) in the semifinals.

In the championship, West Franklin met up with Anderson County in a rematch.

The Falcons rolled to a 25-10, 25-9 victory.

“We played with an intensity all day long that had been lacking in the last two weeks,” Corwine said.

“The girls have been working on improving our consistency and focus, and they accomplished that on Saturday. Now we have to continue to get better each week. We still have work to do.”

Reed finished with 45 kills and 47 digs.

Steele had 43 kills with a hitting percentage of .351 along with 36 digs and a serve-receive average of 2.33 out of 3.0.
