Carol Joanne Wallis, 76, Ottawa, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at her home with her family by her side.
Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Ottawa Community Church, 824 W. 17th, Ottawa. Visitation is planned after 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, to the service hour where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.
She was born Sunday, July 5, 1936, in Soldier, the daughter of Lowell and Helen (Conner) McKinsey.
Carol lived in Ottawa since 1971, moving from Olathe and previously had lived in Eldon, Mo.
She graduated from Soldier High School with the class of 1954 and nurses training at Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., in 1957.
On March 12, 1958, Carol was united in marriage to Jerry Wallis in Olathe. He survives of the home.
Carol worked for Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., in 1957; Baptist Memorial Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., in 1958 to 1960; health nurse for Miller County Health Department, Eldon, Mo., in 1964 to 1966; and in 1971, Carol delivered Meals on Wheels and helped with the fourth-grade class at Eugene Field Elementary School. She then went to work part time as a unit clerk at Ransom Memorial Hospital working part time/full time a total of 21 years before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Helen McKinsey; stepfather, Gaylord Tribble; brothers, Gary McKinsey and Larry McKinsey; son, Joel Morgan; and grandson, Jordan Myers.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Wallis, of the home; daughter, Sherry Lewis and her husband, Sonny, Ottawa; two sons, Russell Wallis and his wife, Susie, Ottawa, and Damon Wallis and his wife, Jan, Ottawa; grandchildren, Josh Myers and his wife, Angela, Donny Lewis and his wife, Callie, Morgan Wallis, Jessica Wallis and her fiancé, Justin Blanco, Brady Wallis, Blake Wallis, McKenzie Wallis, Justin Watts and his wife, Abbi, Jeremy Ousley and his wife, Jaime, and Savannah Cantrell; great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Griffin Myers and Maximus Blanco; stepsister, Bonnie Coverdale and her husband, Roger, Holton; stepbrother, Burton Tribble and his wife, Beverly, Nortonville; many brothers- and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Imogene Honn, Ottawa.
