Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5901 will sponsor its traditional New Year’s Eve dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Monday at 3599 U.S. 59, Ottawa.
The dance is expected to be accompanied by music from the Odds & Ends Band, which performs primarily country western songs.
“They are probably a top draw that we have at the regular dances we have every month,” Gary Ross, VFW Post 5901 commander, said. “We don’t use them every month, of course.
“They have a good following, not only in town but from out of town.”
Along with the dance, attendees will have the chance to win various door prizes and raffles. Biscuits and gravy also will be served following the dance.
Ross said that the dance is not intended to be open to the public, but guests are welcome.
“Actually, you sign the book, and you are a guest of members,” Ross said. “That is a misnomer a little bit in a way. When I sit at the desk there, I sign everybody in. They are my guests.”
Once the clock strikes midnight, Auld Lang Syne will play to welcome in the new year.
“If you’re dancing out there, give your girlfriend or whatever a big kiss ... Just drink responsibly and stay safe.”
The admission price is $25 per couple and $12.50 for singles.
