HAYS — An Insight Kansas columnist was honored Wednesday for his scholarly work.

Dr. Chapman Rackaway, an associate professor at Fort Hays State University and a member of the Insight Kansas writers group whose columns are published regularly in The Herald, received the university’s highest honor Wednesday during a convocation ceremony from the university president, Mirta Martin.

Rackaway was named the President’s Distinguished Scholar during the ceremony kicking off the new school year, the release said.

As a token of the honor, Rackaway received a $1,500 cash award and a medallion, the release said. Rackaway was selected by Martin after recommendations came in from an evaluation committee that has previously nominated presidential scholars, the release said.

Several other faculty members were honored during the ceremony, the release said. Kathleen Ward, associate professor of nursing, was honored as the Faculty Member of the Year and Angela Walters, associate professor of informatics, was named Shearer Advisor of the Year.
