Saturday, Feb. 2

NRA Women on Target: Garden City Community College is hosting an NRA Women on Target class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their own eye and ear protection. Preregistration is required, and the cost is $70. For more information, call (620) 276-9684.

Finney County Spelling Bee: Students from elementary, intermediate and middle schools throughout Finney County will gather at 9 a.m. at the Garden City High School auditorium, 2720 Buffalo Way Blvd., for the chance to advance to the regional spelling bee March 9 at Newman University in Wichita. First- and second-place winners will qualify for the regional bee.

Groundhog Supper: The Methodist Men will host a groundhog supper featuring all you can eat pancakes and sausage from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hamilton County Fair building, 806 S. Main St., Syracuse. Cost is $7 for adults and $5 for kids.

Miss Southwest Kansas: This year's Miss Southwest Kansas 2019 pageant features 18 contestants. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the show starting at 6:30 p.m. at Hugoton High School. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for teens and younger.

 

Monday, Feb. 4

Blood drive: The American Red Cross is hosting the Montezuma community blood drive from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Morningside Community Church, 100 N. Apache Drive, Montezuma.

 

Tuesday, Feb. 5

Music program: Al Miller will sing and play the guitar at 7 p.m. at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St. Everyone is welcome at no charge.

 

Wednesday, Feb. 6

Blood drive: The Greeley County High School National Honor Society and SADD students will be hosting a Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 4H Building, 905 Ingalls Ave., Tribune.

Art workshop: Artist Mike Fallier will host a four-week watercolor painting workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Main ARTery, 103 S. Main St., Ulysses. Sessions are Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27, and the cost is $120 for all four sessions.

Sausage supper: The First Christian Church of Dighton, 210 S. Lane St., is hosting its 87th annual Sausage Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. Dine in or carry out.

 

Thursday, Feb. 7

Legends Salon open house: The salon at 109 W. Grant Ave. in Garden City is hosting an open house from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. to celebrate its 25th anniversary. There will be refreshments and door prizes.

Business planning seminar: The Grant County K-State Research and Extension, 1100 W. Patterson Ave., Ulysses, is hosting a Changing Hands - Business Succession planning seminar from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The seminar will explain how to map a strategy to continue your family's farming legacy for future generations.

 

Saturday, Feb. 9

Valentines dinner show: The Garden City High School Modern Show Choir will present the Valentine’s dinner show “Love is in the Air” at 6 p.m. in the GCHS Commons Area, giving couples a chance to get out and enjoy a special night. Guests will eat a tri-tip steak dinner and trimmings and dessert while the show choir sings live. Tickets are $30 for individuals, $50 for couples and $250 to reserve a table for eight. Sunday, Feb. 10

Daddy/Daugher Dance: Jennie Wilson Elementary School, 1401 Harding Ave., in Garden City, is hosting a special dance from 2 to 3:30 p.m. where girls enrolled at the school and their fathers, grandpas and uncles are invited to come dance the afternoon away. Cookies and punch will be provided.

Boots & Bling: The father/daughter dance is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds, 806 S. Main St., Syracuse. Cost is $5 per person.

Heart Cards: Come learn about pop artist Jim Dine and create artwork that centers on his favorite shape, a heart, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Garden City Arts, 318 N. Main St. For ages 5 and up. Cost  is $5; free for GCA members

FOLRZ banquet: The Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo is hosting its annual dinner banquet from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Finnup Center for Conservation Education, 312 Finnup Drive. Great Western Dining will cater a buffet-style meal. FOLRZ and zoo officials will present an review of 2018 and highlight plans for 2019, and Dr. Ryan Sharp will present "From Kansas to Katmai: An Exploration of Conservation Issues and Management Techniques." Women for Women Membership Drive: The Scott Community Foundation, 210 W. Fourth St., in Scott City, is hosting a membership drive and reception from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Women for Women organization.

Drop-In Art Saturday: Drop in anytime between 1 and 3 p.m. at Garden City Arts, 318 N. Main St., and enjoy multiple art-making stations suitable for the whole family. The event is free and open to all ages.

Open Art Studio: Come join your peers from 3 to 5 p.m. at Garden City Arts, 318 N. Main St. People of all skill levels and working all mediums can work at their own pace on their own projects.

Ducks Unlimited Raffle: The Ducks Unlimited Chapters of Southwest Kansas is having its 50 Gun Super Raffle from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Finney County Exhibition Building, 409 Lake, Garden City. Food will be served from noon to 2 p.m., with beer served throughout the event. The gun raffle will begin at 12:30 p.m. Must be 18 to win a gun.
