Local government and other organizations plan to be closed for the Christmas holiday next week.

The City of Ottawa offices are expected to be closed Christmas Day, but will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday. The Ottawa City Commission has canceled its Monday study session, rescheduling the meeting for 4 p.m. Thursday in commission chambers, 101 S. Hickory St., Ottawa.

Franklin County offices, excluding essential services, will be closed Monday and Tuesday, but are expected to re-open 8 a.m. Wednesday. The Franklin County Board of Commissioners will not have its study session Monday. The board also has canceled its regular Wednesday meeting. The board is expected to meet for its 8:30 a.m. Jan. 2 meeting in the commission chambers at the Franklin County Office Annex, 1428 S. Main St., Ottawa.

The U.S. Post Office, 401 S. Hickory St., Ottawa, will be closed Tuesday, but will operate on Christmas Eve. The postal service also will not be delivering mail Tuesday.

Because of the postal closing, Herald customers will not receive a newspaper Tuesday. Instead, the next edition will be published Wednesday. Herald offices will be closed Tuesday, but normal operating hours are planned to resume 8 a.m. Wednesday at 104 S. Cedar St., Ottawa.

Other area services also will not be available to residents over the holiday. The East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging, 132 S. Main St., and the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce, 109 E. Second St., will be closed Monday and Tuesday, but will re-open 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The Ottawa Community Recreation Center/Goppert Building, 705 W. 15th St., Ottawa, will be open Monday from 6 a.m. to noon, closed Christmas day, and is expected to re-open at 6 a.m. Wednesday. The Goppert building is expected to be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 31, but will be closed Jan. 1.

The Ottawa Library, 101 S. Hickory St., will be closed Monday and Tuesday, and will re-open 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Meal delivery service for the Mid-America Nutrition Program is expected to be discontinued both Monday and Tuesday. In addition, the area meal sites will be closed. Meal deliveries are expected to resume Wednesday.
