DE SOTO — The Ottawa High School girls soccer team found its legs in the second half, but could not come up with any goals Tuesday in a 3-0 loss to De Soto.

The varsity contest was changed to play before the junior varsity because of an impending thunderstorm.

Ottawa coach Kelly Smith said for whatever reason the Cyclones played a flat first half, but picked it up in the second half.

“We got out of the half down 2-0,” Smith said.

Senior keeper Amanda Stinebaugh made some nice saves to keep the match close.

“She has come so far,” Smith said. “She kept us in the game.”

Ottawa gave up a quick goal early in the second half.

“It was a physical game,” Smith said. “We worked a lot of off the ball runs.

“They kept battling. We were happy with some of the things we did on the field. We had some great shots on goal. We could not quite put it in the net.”

The Ottawa junior varsity lost 1-0.

Ottawa (1-3) plays 5 p.m. today at home against Kansas City Christian in a varsity-only match. The match was moved from Kansas City to Ottawa.
