The West Franklin High School baseball team opened its season with a 3-1 mark in the first week of the season.

On Tuesday, the Falcons rolled by Lyndon 10-3 and 9-1. On Thursday, West Franklin split with Osage City. The Falcons won the opener, 11-3, and fell 7-6 in nine innings in the nightcap.

First-year West Franklin coach Danny Homer said the Falcons played well in its first week.

“I am pretty satisfied,” he said.

The coach likes the way the pitchers competed and expects to have depth in that area.

The Falcons’ pitching turned in gems. Ethan Duda had 18 strikeouts in the opener against Lyndon. Owen Reed had nine strikeouts in the second game. Both tossed two hitters.

Colt Eckenroed had eight strikeouts in the win over Osage City. Mitchell Walters had seven strikeouts in five innings in the second game.

Reed had five RBIs against Lyndon. Will Duda had five stolen bases in the opener against Lyndon.

Tanner Fine hit the for the cycle — a single, double, triple and home run — against Osage City. He had four RBIs. Clay Altic had three RBIs versus Osage City.
