Five local students have been announced to be candidates for a degree for the fall 2012 semester at the University of Kansas.

Area students include:

• Amelia Crenshaw, Ottawa — She is the daughter of Scott Crenshaw, Ottawa, and Lucinda Crenshaw, Overland Park. She is a graduate of Olathe South High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English.

• Cody Dunyon, Ottawa — He is the son of John and Kristy Brockway, Ottawa. He is a graduate of Ottawa High School. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in visual art.

• Shawn Henry, Ottawa — He is the son of Steve and Brenda Henry, Ottawa. He is a graduate of Ottawa High School. He received a Master of Science in engineering management.

• Carissa McCall, Ottawa — She is the daughter of Sherry and James Engelbert, Ottawa. She is a graduate of Ottawa High School. She received a Bachelor of General Studies in women’s studies and Bachelor of General Studies in sociology.

• Jessica Rockhold, Ottawa — She is the daughter of Cecil Rockhold, Ottawa, and Jonalyn Rockhold, Baldwin. She is a graduate of Pomona High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies.

Graduate and undergraduate degrees are conferred in December based on work completed during the fall semester. Because KU conducts only one formal Commencement each year, many students graduating in the fall or summer terms will return on Sunday, May 19, for the traditional walk down the Hill into Memorial Stadium for the ceremony.

Four of KU’s colleges and schools conducted recognition programs or hooding ceremonies in December to honor those planning to graduate in fall 2012: the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Business, the School of Education and the School of Engineering.
