The program, “What’s Happened at the Library?” was presented by city librarian Becky Dodd. The library is supported by city and state taxes, grants, fundraisers by the Friends of the Library, the Wellsville business community and other miscellaneous donations, in addition to memorials.
There have been many changes in the library since Dodd first began 27 years ago.
She demonstrated first of all the die cut machine that automatically cuts out shapes used especially for the children’s programs.
Then she explained the NExpress News, a partnership of more than 40 libraries in the Northeast Kansas Library System. These libraries share a catalog use of 925,000 items. All this is online, through a software program called Koha, and is available to patrons as well. Funds are being raised for an addition to the existing building, which is bursting at the seams.
Thirteen members answered roll call with their assigned topics. There being no old or new business, the meeting was adjourned for refreshments served by the hostesses.
The next meeting will be Feb. 18 at the home of Betty Edwards.
