“It feels great to be recognized for all of the hard work we have been putting in since July,” Shayla Jacob, OU spirit team coordinator, said. “Our season is pretty much nonstop for nine months, so it will be great to end our season in April with a trip to nationals. It gives the kids that little extra push they need to make it through and gives them a goal to keep striving for.”
The small co-ed cheer squad earned a Gold bid with a 86.425. The team defeated KCAC member Bethany College (82.45). The Swedes earned a bronze bid. The dance team earned a bronze bid and finished fourth with a point total of 92.975. Gibby, OU’s mascot, competed as well with Sarah Carr in the costume. Carr earned third place in the mascot competition with a point total of 44.675.
