For the program, Liz introduced the speaker, Liz Stuewe, of the Willow Domestic Violence Care Center, serving Douglas, Franklin and Jefferson County residents. Her presentation was informative.
After the program, members enjoyed snacks provided by the hostesses.
The meeting was called to order by President Therese Payne. The opening prayer was given by Nancy Fischer. Roll call was answered by 13 members sharing their favorite Valentine’s gift.
The club received a thank you note from Leah Wray of the LifeCare Center for its monetary contribution and from the Colmery-O’Neal VA Hospital for the donation of valentines and personal care products
Virginia Cook made a motion to accept the January minutes as presented. Bev Bird seconded the motion, which passed. Cindy presented the treasurer’s report. Lila Reekie moved to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. Liz seconded the motion, which passed.
There were no bills submitted.
Members were pleased with the monetary contribution given to the Franklin County Literature Festival. Cindy reminded members who were planning to attend the Literature Festival Banquet March 11 to pay her at the meeting.
The form reporting the initiation and pledging of Brenda Wigger has been sent in. Flo White’s name was sent in for resignation from ADK. The Chapter Altruistic report is due in to State and International by March 15.
President Therese encouraged members to apply for the Kansas ADK Scholarship. The club received notification in August that the chapter is a Five Pearl Chapter. Virginia, Therese and Lila are going to review the chapter bylaws before August, and align them with the state bylaws. They are to be submitted each biennium, by Oct. 31, to meet IRS requirements.
Gerry Coffman received her ADK pin and certificate at the meeting. President Therese thanked Janet Radcliffe and Patty Nelson for delivering the valentines and personal care products to the VA hospital in Topeka.
Virginia made a motion to accept the following slate of officers for the 2014-2016 biennium. Lila seconded the motion, which passed. The officers are: president, Therese Payne; vice-president, Bonnie Walz; secretary and publicity, Patty Nelson; treasurer, Cindy Ayers; membership and pledge chair, Liz Smith; historian and programs, Virginia Cook; corresponding secretary, Gloria Kruse; altruistic chair, Brenda Wigger; chaplin, Nancy Fischer; meeting reminder correspondent, Barb Engel; and courtesy chair, Lila Reekie.
Members were given an update on Claire Davis.
The next meeting will be 5:30 p.m. March 11 at Sacred Heart Library. Hostesses will be JoAnn Duvall and Claire Davis.
Bev and Patty received chocolate Valentine’s candy as the door prize.
Virginia made a motion to adjourn the meeting, which was seconded by Liz. Motion passed. The meeting closed with the singing of “The Lamp of ADK.”
