Courtney Houston, a junior at OHS and also a member of the Lawrence Children’s Tour Choir, participated in the Ninth World Choral Festival July 17-20 in Missoula, Mont.
The non-competitive festival occurs every three years, with only the best choirs in the world invited to participate. Lawrence Children’s Choir was one of the 16 choirs, including only two children’s choirs from the United States, that were invited to participate.
All the members of the Lawrence Children’s Choir and chaperones left early the morning of July 14 and went to Mount Rushmore, where they performed at the lighting ceremony. They then traveled by bus to Yellowstone National Park, and then on to Montana.
Houston, who sings soprano in the Chamber Singers and plays French horn in the OHS band, said that she was able to listen to choirs from Costa Rica, Estonia, Germany, Switzerland, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Poland, Finland, Taiwan and China. She also said there were some fantastic musicians, and the trip was a wonderful experience.
