The OU cheer team finished third last season in the Small Co-Ed Squad Division with a score of 81.68. This will be the first trip to nationals for the dance team. The third-place finish is the highest place an OU club team has finished at the national tournament.
“Our girls exceeded our expectations,” Shayla Jacob, OU Spirit Team coordinator, said. “The dance team (was) very excited to debut the new team at their first halftime performance Sept. 14. The coaching staff and team members look forward to this coming year and continuing to grow the teams into national competitors.”
The OU cheer team earned a Silver bid Aug. 7 at the NCA Summer Camp hosted by Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo. The team competed in the Division II Large Co-Ed Division, a bump up from the Small Co-Ed Division the team competed in last year. The Silver Bid gives the team a reduced registration fee and partially paid hotel rooms for nationals.
The Lady Braves dance team earned a Bronze Bid Aug. 18 at the NDA Summer Camp hosted by Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Mo. The team competed against dance teams from every division to earn the Bronze Bid. The bid gives the team a reduced registration fee for nationals.
“The coaching staff is very proud of the Lady Braves Dance Team,” Jacob said. “They set off to camp this summer with half of the team being new, which would be a challenge for most schools.”
