Donna Wasserfallen presented the program. She chose to give a report on the devastating typhoon that struck the Philippines a couple of weeks ago. Because of damaged roads, downed lines of communications and widespread destruction of homes and buildings, an exact count of the dead, injured and missing cannot yet be determined. Getting medical aid, food and water to many communities is difficult. Wasserfallen showed pictures of the unbelievable widespread devastation. Both she and Donna Romstedt had lived some few years in the Philippines and answered questions about living conditions, culture and climate asked by club members.
Twelve members answered roll call with interesting tidbits of their assigned subjects. Members were reminded to bring articles for Hope House to the December meeting. Barbara Saner reported a need for women’s anklets at Hope House, so will donate mittens and women’s socks rather than the usual mittens and hats. The proceeds of the raffle of Olive Beuhler’s Santa also will go to Hope House.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to change the December meeting to the 10th instead of the 18th. Carolyn Silvius will host, and Midge Casselman will co-host. A motion was made, seconded and passed to give the library a Christmas gift of $50 and to give a gift of $50 to a local family that lost household goods in a fire.
The meeting was adjourned to enjoy refreshments served by the hostess and co-hostess. The next meeting will be Dec. 10.
