Students who participated in the competition were required to take a written test developed by Associate Professor of Mathematics Dr. Jeff McCreight. They then competed in a Jeopardy-style quiz with categories in geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, formulas and algebra. Students not offered a scholarship remain eligible to submit a portfolio for meeting criteria to receive other departmental awards.
“The 2013 Ottawa University Mathematics Competition represented a fun step forward for the mathematics program at Ottawa University,” McCreight said. “The day was especially memorable for me as I was given the esteemed honor of meeting several senior high school students interested in studying mathematics at the collegiate level. These students would not have made the competition had it not been for the efforts of many at the college, most notably those in admissions, marketing and current students in the math program, and so a heartfelt ‘thank you’ goes out to all who helped make this competition a reality. It truly is exciting to be offering academic scholarship for mathematics at Ottawa University.”
