An art tour featuring more than 13 area artists at 12 businesses is planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Garnett. The free tour is open to the public.
The event, sponsored by the Walker Art Collection Committee, is the first of its kind for the Anderson County community. The tour was based on a similar event in Paola, Joyce Martin, adviser to the Walker Art Committee, said. The community made the tour its own. It is set to feature many local artists, including members of the Anderson County High School FFA and art classes.
“We just want it to be another fun community event for people to attend,” Martin said.
Garnett recently has been trying to brand itself as a cultural mecca for artists and art fans alike, Martin said, and the art tour will help reach that goal. The tour also will feature Garnett artists Madeleine Klein, sculptor and mixed media artist; blacksmith Mike Hill, owner of Art in Iron, 116 W. Fifth Ave., and Eileen Poss, woodworker.
“What we are really hoping for is that it will bring a renewed interest in the arts,” Martin said.
Information and maps will be available at each of the stops on the tour. For more information on the event, including the stops on the tour, go to www.experiencegarnettks.com
While not every art form appeals to everyone, Martin said, she encouraged people to try out the variety of artwork.
