John W. DeBus, 66, Ottawa, passed away Dec. 9, 2012.
Memorial funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at First Assembly of God, Ottawa.
He was born Nov. 21, 1946, in Delavan, the son of John Erfing DeBus and Mary Elizabeth (Sangwin) DeBus.
He grew up in Herrington, graduating from Herrington High School with the class of 1964.
He was a self-employed construction contractor in Herrington from 1974 to 1984, then moved to Mesa, Ariz., and was a construction supervisor. In 1990, John moved to Rogers, Ark., and then from 1994 to 2009, he was the principle broker for his real estate company AAA Garibaldi in Rogers.
In 2009, John retired and moved to Ottawa, where he had lived since.
John was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Ottawa, and a past member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Herrington. He also was a very active former member of the Rogers, Ark., Board of Realtors.
On Aug. 21, 1964, John was united in marriage with Linda Wilkey at Council Grove. John and Linda have shared more than 48 years of love and devotion to one another. Linda survives of their home.
Survivors also include a daughter, Jamie Pitcher and her husband, Pascal, Nancy, France; two sons, Jason DeBus and his wife, Heather, Phoenix, Ariz., and Jared DeBus and his wife, Teresa, Ottawa; three sisters, Johnette Lueth, Hope, Joan Hensley, Bazine, and Jae Luscombe, Topeka; and nine grandchildren, Tanna, Travis, Taylor, Tiffany, Trinity, John, Miah, Brandon and Allie.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Herbel.
