Irene Marie Dunn, 79, Wellsville, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012.
Graveside services are planned for 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City. Family will meet with friends 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Irene will be placed at her home Friday morning for family viewing at 4574 Ohio Road, Wellsville. The funeral procession will leave the family home at 12:30 p.m. on her final journey to the Oakwood Cemetery.
She was born on Sunday, Sept. 17, 1933, in Council Grove, Kan., the daughter of Carol O. and Ethal P. (Ellis) Furman.
Irene grew up on the family farm in rural Wellsville since 1950, moving there from Ottawa.
She attended Ottawa High School with the class of 1951.
On Dec. 24, 1950, Irene was united in marriage to Richard S. Dunn Sr. in Council Grove. He preceded her in death Aug. 12, 2000.
She was a farmer’s wife and seamstress in Ottawa with H.D. Lee in the 1950s and 1960s and also worked as an independent seamstress.
Irene enjoyed sewing, her family, children and grandchildren. She completed her life with unconditional love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard S. Dunn Sr.; parents, Carl and Ethal Furman; and brother, Kenneth Otto Furman.
Survivors include three daughters, Diana Hicks, Ottawa, Robin Dunn, Wellsville, and Linda Dunn, Carbondale; two sons, Richard “Rick” Dunn Jr., Wellsville, and Shane Dunn, Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice through Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
