Murney Marie Showalter, 91, Ottawa, died peacefully with her family by her side Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Ransom Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services are planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg. Family will meet with friends from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Williamsburg.
She was born Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1921, in Williamsburg, the daughter of Albert Fredrick and Bonnie Sarah (Mozley) Hart.
Murney was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, moving to Ottawa in 1946.
She graduated from Williamsburg High School with the Class of 1939.
On Oct. 7, 1939, Murney was united in marriage to Harold J. Showalter in Lawrence. He preceded her in death Oct. 29, 1986.
Murney worked in the bakery for Pence IGA in Ottawa from 1972 to 1990 until it became Ray’s IGA.
Murney loved her family and always put them first. She had a great sense of humor, enjoyed collecting antiques and taking short trips to the Ozarks, Nashville and seeing the shows in Branson.
She was a member and past president of the Eagles Auxiliary No. 2700.
She is preceded in death by a son, Barry Showalter; grandson, Strider Showalter; parents, Albert and Bonnie Hart; brother, Gene Hart; and half sister, Ava Theobald.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Showalter and wife, Jane, Prairie Village, and Martin Showalter and wife, Liz, Lindsborg; daughter, Jan Becker and husband, Bernie, Tempe, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter through Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
