Stanley Paul Krysztof, 74, Baldwin City, passed away Sept. 21, 2012, at his home.
Graveside services for those wishing to attend are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Sutton Cemetery, U.S. 56, Baldwin City. Visitation is planned for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City.
He was born March 11, 1938, in Hamtramck, Mich., the oldest son of Stanley Paul and Isabelle Bernice (Galubenski) Krysztof. As a boy, Stan moved to Harris, Kan., with his family in the 1940s and was responsible for operating the family farm during his youth.
He graduated from Garnett High School with the class of 1955 and moved to California with his wife and family to become a tool and cutter grinder at North American Aviation. He returned to Kansas in 1973, where he later started his business, K&K Grinding & Machine Co., in 1977 in Baldwin City, with his wife and later his son, until his retirement in 2009.
He was an altar server as a young boy, and later attended Grace Episcopal Church of Ottawa, serving as lector. He was active in youth sports by coaching his children’s softball and baseball teams and also serving as president of their respective leagues. After the move to Baldwin City, he umpired many youth ball games.
He was elected to serve as a Baldwin City Council member (1995-1997) and the city mayor (1997-2001).
Stan joined the “Over the Road Gang” car club of Ottawa where he was an active member. He enjoyed restoring classic cars, maintaining his yard and spending time with his family.
On April 6, 1957, Stanley was united in marriage with Barbara Macklin in Garnett. They shared more than 55 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; his children, Deborah Riles and husband, Scott, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Stephen Krysztof and wife, Lori, Baldwin City; three brothers, Eugene Krysztof and wife, Inge, Austin, Texas, Raymond Krysztof and wife, Jackie, Houston, Texas, and Gerald Krystof and wife, Diane, Baldwizn City; two sisters, Elaine Fry and husband, Steve, and Janet Krysztof; six granddaughters, Kimberly Sachs and husband, Eric, and Whitney Riles, both of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Katie Delaney and husband, Martin, Fort Bragg, N.C., Emily Krysztof, Pittsburg, Brianna Krysztof and Michaela Krysztof, Baldwin City; and three great-grandsons, Ben and Jack Sachs and Max Delaney.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Worden United Methodist Church through Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, 712 Ninth St., Baldwin City KS 66006.
