Irene Roberts, 93, Wapello, Iowa, formerly of Ottawa, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012.
Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Friends may pay respects to Irene 1 p.m. Thursday to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton.
She was born Thursday, March 27, 1919, in Franklin County, the daughter of William A. and Elma O. (Arnold) Talbott.
Irene grew up in Franklin County, moving to Washington, D.C. in 1941. She lived in Jacksonville, Fla., in the mid-40s and returned to Franklin County in 1945 where she made her home until moving to Wapello, Iowa, in 2010.
She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1937.
Irene worked for the War Department in Washington, D.C. for several years in the 1940s and Mode-O-Day in Ottawa in 1951 to 1981.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship and Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Irene was united in marriage with Lee Roberts Nov. 25, 1965 in Ottawa. He preceded her in death April 26, 1981.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roberts; and three brothers, Seth Talbott, Charles Talbott and Ray Talbott.
Survivors include three daughters, Patsy (Mangum) Lowe and husband, Jack, Amana, Iowa, Betty (Mangum) Berkley and husband, Ed, Belton, Mo., and Lois Stewart and husband, Vernon, Ottawa; grandchildren, Joann Hess, Erin Lowe, Tammi Martinson, Chad Smith, Cory Smith, Adam Berkley, Brian Berkley, Tammy McDonald, Loren Stewart and Larry Stewart; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions to First Christian Church, Sunflower Plaza or Wapello Nursing & Rehabilitation Center through Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
