Pauline Grace “Polly” Scott, 95, Ottawa, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Ottawa Retirement Village.
Funeral services are planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Scott 9 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.
She was born Sunday, Nov. 19, 1916, in Princeton, the daughter of James Henry and Audrey Mabel (Tharp) Martin.
She lived in Richmond, Colony, Kansas City, Wichita and Emporia, all in Kansas before moving to Ottawa in 1949.
Polly graduated from Colony High School with the class of 1934 and Ottawa Business College in 1936.
She was a homemaker and worked 17 years for Fogle Quarry as a bookkeeper in the 1960s and 1970s and as a waitress at the L&L Café in the 1980s. During World War II, she worked in Kansas City assembling MASH units. For more than 25 years, Polly and her husband, George, ran Scott’s Drive-In Restaurant in Ottawa.
Polly was a member of First Christian Church in Ottawa, serving as treasurer, historian and deacon and a former member of Eastern Star.
On Friday, Feb. 13, 1942, Pauline was united in marriage with George Dana Scott at Baldwin City. He preceded her in death Dec. 30, 1978.
Survivors include three sons, Lowell G. Scott and his wife, Kristeen, Ottawa, Lyle M. Scott and his wife, Marcia, Paola, and Lynn W. Scott and his wife, Linda, Wichita; two daughters, Jewel D. Scott, Kansas City, Mo., and Carol A. Scott Trettin and her husband, James, Bettendorf, Iowa; brother, Lowell J. Martin and his wife, Waneta, Newbury Park, Calif.; a granddaughter, Rebecca L. Scott, Leawood; five grandsons, Mark L. Scott, Ottawa, Eric D. Scott, Ottawa, Jeremiah J. Scott, Wichita, Nehemiah L. Scott, Wichita, Jedidiah F. Scott, Paola; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George D. Scott; parents, James H. and Audrey M. Martin; and daughter, Judy P. Scott.
The family suggests memorial contributions to New Horizon Ranch, a charity that provides a therapeutic riding experience for children with disabilities, through Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa KS 66067.
