Ruth Maurine Bond, Paola, went to join her Savior Nov. 15, 2012. She was surrounded by her family.
Funeral services are planned for 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at First Baptist Church, 207 E. Wea St., Paola. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 305 N. Pearl St., Paola. Burial will be in Wellsville Cemetery.
Maurine was born Dec. 26, 1925, the fourth child of Harvey E. and Pearl Musselman Crist, at their farmhouse in rural Miami County.
She grew up on the family farm, attending rural school at Prairie Bell through the eighth grade. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1943. Following her graduation, she attended eight weeks of summer school at Baker University in Baldwin City, where she earned a teaching certificate.
Because of a wartime teacher shortage, she began teaching at Poplar Ridge School at the age of 17. At the end of World War II, she met her future husband, George Bond, who had just returned from overseas duty. They were married at her parents’ home July 7, 1946. They were married 53 years until his death in July 1999. Together, they raised a family of six daughters and one son.
Maurine was a full-time homemaker. Her heart was with her family, home and church. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She loved country life and stayed in the family home for two years after George’s death, and then moved to an apartment on Lewis Drive in Paola, where she continued to be a blessing to her family and friends.
Maurine was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lenora Quellhorst, who previously lived in Paola, and Hazel Rader, who previously lived in Homet, Calif.; and a brother, Junior Crist, who previously lived in Wellsville.
Survivors include six daughters, Linda Greer and husband, Stan, Clearwater, Diane Hailey and husband, Russ, Lawrence, Alice Hutchcraft and husband, Rich, Greenwood, Mo., Carol Fenton and husband, Mark, Holton, Janet Wolken and companion, Brad Croucher, Ottawa, and Terri Madden and husband, Randy, Rantoul; and one son, Jeff Bond and wife, Kelly, Louisburg. Other survivors include 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren with another due in December.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Paola First Baptist Church Agape Fund or Crossroad Nogales Mission, 456 N. Morley Ave., Nogales AZ 86721, (520) 287-5828.
