Edward M. “Ed” Calkins Sr., 74, Williamsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Olathe Medical Center.
Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Calkins Sr., from 2 p.m. today to the service hour at Dengel & Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today. Interment is planned for Antioch Cemetery, Homewood.
He was born Saturday, Nov. 26, 1938, in Olivet, the son of Gail M. and Violet (Williams) Calkins
Ed was a lifelong Franklin County resident, living in Williamsburg the past two years.
He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1956 and attended Ottawa University for two years.
On Aug. 6, 1967, Ed was united in marriage with Anita Crandell in Independence, Mo. She survives of the home.
Ed worked 31 years as an assembler/team leader at General Motors Company at their Fairfax Plant in Kansas City, Kan., retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the Cherry Street Wesleyan Church and the UAW Local 31 Kansas City, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gail and Violet Calkins.
Survivors include his wife, Anita Calkins, Williamsburg; three daughters, Juanita McConnell and husband, Gary, Williamsburg, Violet Calkins, Williamsburg, and Rose Stauch and husband, Joseph, Williamsburg; four sons, Edward Calkins Jr., Ottawa, Daniel Calkins and wife, Stephanie, Lawrence, Carl Calkins and wife, Shana, Richmond, Mo., and Scotty Calkins and wife, Nicole, Grandview, Mo.; brother, Walt Calkins and wife, Joan, Kansas City, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
