Ryan Grillo and his passenger, Billy Roman Jr., 22, Wichita, fled after the crash, which occurred about 9:30 p.m., according to a police report. Ottawa police officers later located Grillo and Roman near Best Western Motel, 212 E. 23rd St., Ottawa, where the two men were staying, Capt. Adam Weingartner, Ottawa Police Department patrol division commander, said.
During the investigation, Grillo became uncooperative and was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, Weingartner said. Subsequent investigation led to additional charges, the captain said.
Grillo was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, falsely reporting a crime, failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was released Sunday from Franklin County jail, 305 S. Main St., Ottawa, on $3,000 bond, awaiting his next court appearance, authorities at the jail said.
During the investigation, Roman was arrested on suspicion of obstructing the legal process. He was released Sunday from jail on $500 bond, awaiting his next court appearance, jail records indicated.
Grillo and Roman did not require medical treatment after the crash, and no one was injured during the arrests, Weingartner said.
