Armed with a handgun, a suspect attempted to gain entry into Kincaid’s Citizens Bank at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to a release from Vernon Valentine, Anderson County Sheriff. After failing to enter the bank, the suspect and a driver both fled in a white Dodge Durango, whereupon the Samaritan began tailing the car.
The suspects apparently pointed a gun at the Samaritan, who was then told to fall back by the sheriff’s office. Law enforcement eventually were able to catch up to the suspects in Linn County and gave pursuit. The suspects fired shots at law enforcement, and several bullets struck an officer’s vehicle. Kansas Highway Patrol returned fire, striking one of the suspects, who suffered unknown injuries and later was transported to a medical facility.
The suspects were taken into custody in Linn County, just outside of Mound City. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Kansas Highway Patrol are now conducting an investigation of the incident.
“I would like to put out a special thanks to the Good Samaritan, Kansas Highway Patrol, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office and the Mount City Police Department for assisting Anderson County in the apprehension of the suspects,” Valentine said.
