The former Franklin County employee was arrested in late May 2011 on suspicion of sexually assaulting a then 4-year-old girl at his wife’s in-home day care business in Ottawa. Scrutchfield, 28, faces three felony charges in connection with the alleged assault, which was said to have occurred sometime between March and May 2011 at Yvonne Scrutchfield Day Care Home, 607 N. Cedar St.
The jury was due to resume deliberations at 9 a.m. Friday as the trial entered its eighth day.
On Thursday, jurors asked to have Scrutchfield’s testimony read back to them. In addition, they watched the reported victim’s interview with Ottawa police detectives multiple times Thursday evening, as well as asked to have the girl’s testimony from the second day of the trial read back to them about 8:45 p.m. Thursday. The jury retired for the night at 10 p.m.
