A 1999 GMC van driven by Ralph F. Williams, 79, Flemington, Mo., was attempting to cross Missouri Highway 13 near Humansville when Williams failed to yield and pulled into the path of a 1999 Chevrolet pickup driven by Edgar Swank, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Ramah L. Swank, 82, Ottawa, a passenger in the Swanks’ truck, was killed in the crash.
Edgar Swank was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo., where he underwent neck surgery, his son, Royce Swank, said Wednesday. Williams and his passenger also were seriously injured in the crash, the highway patrol report said.
Royce Swank said his father was released from the hospital Monday and is recuperating from his injuries at the Ottawa Retirement Village, 1100 W. 15th St., Ottawa.
“He gets worn out pretty easily after being on his back for almost seven days, but he’s doing great after the surgery,” Swank said of his father. “He’ll have to go through therapy for the next few weeks, but he can have visitors. I’m sure he would love for people to stop by and see him.”
Funeral services for Ramah Swank will be 10 a.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory St., Ottawa. The family will meet with friends 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the mortuary.
