Ottawa city commissioners at their study session Monday recommended Dr. Bud Gollier, Ottawa physician, Gene Ramsey, former five-time Ottawa mayor, and Jeanny Sharp, Herald editor and publisher, be added to the Airport Advisory Board.
Helping Ottawa city officials find a permanent fixed-base operator for the airport will be just one of the duties the advisory board is expected to undertake this summer. Another topic the board will tackle in the near future is to determine how the airport can be best used to enhance economic development in the community and surrounding area, city officials have said.
The trio were among a half dozen candidates who had applied for the three board openings vacated by Kristin Allan, Ken Davidson and Ed York, whose terms on the board expired in April. Allan and York did not seek re-appointment.
Gollier, Ramsey and Sharp each would serve a three-year term on the board. Their appointments will not be official until the city commission votes on the matter at its regular meeting 7 p.m. June 5 at City Hall, 101 S. Hickory St., Ottawa.
City commissioners also recommended Monday that advisory board member Cal Lantis, owner of Century 21 Lantis & Associates Inc., Ottawa, be re-appointed to serve a three-year term.
Ottawa’s mayor typically represents the city commission on the six-member advisory board. Sara Caylor, who was sworn in as Ottawa’s new mayor last month, recused herself from serving on the panel because her husband, Chad Caylor, is president of the board. Blake Jorgensen, city commissioner, will represent the city’s governing body on the advisory group.
A recent college graduate with a focus on airport management is serving as interim manager of the airport until a new fixed-base operator can be chosen. Bryce Rea, a December 2012 graduate of the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, Mo., earned a bachelor’s degree in airport management, Richard Nienstedt, Ottawa city manager, said in a previous interview.
City staff and advisory board representatives are soliciting fixed-base operators’ proposals to review before making a recommendation to the Ottawa City Commission for final approval.
