“The [assailant] knew the victims,” Vern Valentine, Anderson County sheriff, said of the home invasion Thursday east of Garnett. “We have interviewed a couple of suspects, and we believe this was an isolated incident. It’s still under investigation.”
No arrests had been made as of late Monday morning, the sheriff said.
The attacker was reported to be using a weapon during the assault, but Valentine declined to identify the weapon or discuss details about the incident.
“The home was unlocked, and the person came in and attacked the two men,” Valentine said. “They were the only two persons at home at the time of the attack.”
The son was transported to an area medical facility with non-life threatening injuries, the sheriff said. The older man was examined by medical staff and then released, Valentine said.
The sheriff’s office requested the assistance of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation crime unit to help process the crime scene, according to a sheriff’s office release Friday.
