Richards said the cause of the accident was under investigation by the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), and the deceased victim was not a Franklin County resident.
“It appears one (of the vehicles) was northbound (on U.S. 59) and one was southbound,” he said. “The KHP is conducting their investigation and figuring all that stuff out right now.”
Both vehicles looked to be totaled in the wreck, Richards said.
Traffic on U.S. 59 was being routed down to one lane at a time, and Richards said at about 1:45 p.m. that it would continue for at least another hour.
Emergency personnel from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and Franklin County Emergency Medical Services were on scene to work the accident.
