Investigators have identified at least one suspect in the four burglaries, which occurred Aug. 26 through Aug. 28 in Rantoul and Ottawa, Jeff Richards, Franklin County sheriff, said Thursday.
“A suspect has been developed and the cases have been submitted to the county attorney’s office,” Richards said.
While no arrests had been made as of Thursday afternoon, Richards said, he thought charges would be forthcoming from the Franklin County Attorney’s office.
Two of the burglaries took place in the Rantoul area and two in Ottawa — all involving undisclosed members of the Central Heights staff, Richards said.
The suspect is male, Richards said, but he declined to provide additional details about the individual until charges have been filed.
“I believe the teachers were targeted because [the suspect or suspects] knew they would not be home during the day,” Richards said. “I believe most of what was taken was jewelry, but I cannot get into more specifics about the cases at this time.”
