After a nearly 90-minute public hearing in front of a standing room-only crowd at Wellsville City Hall, the Wellsville Planning Commission voted 5-0 Wednesday night to recommend the Wellsville City Council not approve a proposed change in zoning from residential to commercial at 824 Chilton Ave. that would have paved the way for a development group to build a Dollar General on that tract of land in the primarily residential neighborhood.
Residents had circulated a petition against the proposed rezoning, based on concerns about property values and the proximity to existing homes.
The matter now will be forwarded to the city council for its consideration. The next council meeting is Oct. 30 at City Hall, 411 Main St.
