The Heartland Chapter of the National Frame Building Association presented Quality Structures Inc. of Richmond with its Building of the Year Award in the residential housing category for the builder’s Kuckelman Farm project, according to an association news release.
The structure serves as a secondary residence and equipment storage for the Mike Kuckelman family. The design represents a classic T-barn style that includes a lofted residential area with full wrap-around porch, the release said. The project, which included an attached shop, was erected in 19 days.
Quality Structures also received the association’s Building of the Year Award in the most unique post-frame application category for an observation tower project built for Bryant Kroutch. The structure serves as a lookout for observing nature, hunting and outdoor recreation, the release said.
It compliments a weekend retreat cabin built by Quality Structures two years ago, the release said, and stands 30 feet from ground to the observation floor, with a 30-foot spiral staircase.
The association also presented its Building of the Year Judges’ Special Award to Quality Structures for a stall barn and riding arena project built for the Mike Brown family. The building serves as a retreat for family and friends to enjoy their horses, the release said.
The stall barn is a “lofted alley with raftered lean-to’s,” while the arena is “80 feet clear span with ventilation on four sides,” the release said.
The structure was erected in three weeks.
