Larry Lintner was diagnosed earlier this year with large cell lymphoma, but the Ottawa couple reports recent tests show no sign of the cancer.
To help celebrate his cancer-free status, organizers are planning a country and bluegrass concert in Lintner’s honor 7 p.m. Saturday at Ottawa Municipal Auditorium, Third and Hickory streets, Ottawa. The concert will feature the Barnyard Boys, Bluestem and Mid-Day Ramblers.
Audrey Lintner said when some friends talked with them about having a benefit concert, she asked that it be approached as a celebration that her husband is free of cancer and as a thank you to community members for their tremendous outpouring of support throughout his battle.
“There is no sign of the lymphoma,” Audrey Lintner said. “That is a huge victory. So, I said, ‘Let’s make this [concert] a celebration.’”
A free-will offering will be taken to help the Lintners with some lingering medical bills. The couple did not have health insurance when Lintner was diagnosed with cancer.
“I asked that any donations be split with the Franklin County Cancer Foundation, because they rely on donations and have helped so many people, including us,” Audrey Lintner said.
Lintner had to undergo several weeks of chemotherapy as part of his treatment. Audrey Lintner said she’s hopeful her husband will be able to take the stage for a few minutes to play his guitar — something he loves to do.
