Thomas Kent, 39, Topeka, refused to exit his apartment on Ash Street in Overbrook when approached by law enforcement officers about 1 p.m. Tuesday, Laurie Dunn, Osage County sheriff, said in a news release.
The neighborhood was sealed off to keep residents, including children walking home from school, at a safe distance from the scene, Dunn said.
When law agencies arrived, Linda Woods, 32, Topeka, fled the apartment and was arrested on three Shawnee County felony warrants, the release said. Shawnee County deputies, as well as officers with the U.S. Marshal’s Office, U.S. Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, Overbrook Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol participated in the raid, the release said.
Numerous attempts to engage Kent in a dialogue and get him to exit the apartment met with no success, Dunn said. Officers forced their way into the apartment and arrested Kent at 7:52 p.m. without further incident, the release said.
Kent was arrested on a Shawnee County warrant for failure to appear at his sentencing on a felony aggravated weapons conviction, the release said. After his arrest, officers found weapons and ammunition in Kent’s apartment, the release said.
